Treasury Yields Update: The 5-Year at Historic Low

I was looking at the latest yield update from the US Treasury and noticed that the 5-year note closed today at 0.60. That ties the historic low set on Monday -- an occasion I didn't notice until now. I get a daily email update for Treasury yields directly from the Department of the Treasury, which has historic data back to 1990. My source for earlier data is the St. Louis FRED. The 5-Year Treasury Constant Maturity series (DGS5) goes back to January 1962.

So, our Operation Twist chart today has two historic lows, the 5-year note and the 30-year fixed. Tomorrow we'll get the weekly update on mortgage rates from Freddie Mac. Stay tuned. We may see more history in the making.
