John Bogle, the founder and former Chairman of Vanguard Securities, responds to a reader inquiry about fixed income indexing and provides us with his forecast for the financial markets for 2008. Mr. Bogle's forecast was part of a talk he recently gave entitled "Black Mondays and Black Swans," on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the 1987 "Black Monday" market crash. We also provide the complete text of his talk, which addresses the nature of risk and uncertainty and the role of financial services in our economy. This is not an 'easy read,' but we believe that Mr. Bogle's provides an insightful commentary on the way our capitalist economy has evolved.
Our writer, Susan Weiner, looks at two ways in which advisors are investing in hedge funds. She speaks with RINET Company and The Colony Group, two Boston-based RIAs, who use very different approaches when selecting and implementing hedge fund investments for their clients.
Karla Paxton provides the latest installment in her series on "Freedom through Independence" for RIAs,showing how to implement a paperless office.
Lastly, Northfield Information Services, a leading wealth management research firm, is hosting a seminar on High Net Worth Investing and a limited number of spaces are available.
